Bespoke Tie Down Anchor Socket Solution For Beresford Square Market in Woolwich, London
Beresford Square in Woolwich, London, was recently improved as part of a larger project costing around £25 million.
The project included work on Powis Street, Beresford Square, Market Pavilion, and the Royal Arsenal Gatehouse.
Brooks Forgings was contacted by the lead contractor to manufacture and supply tie-down anchor points for the new dedicated stretch of market stalls, located along the northwestern side of Beresford Square, extending towards Powis Street.

With a focus on public safety, anchor points can be used to secure market stalls, preventing movement during high winds or extreme weather conditions.

Originally interested in our unique anchor sockets produced for Norwich Market (see here), the contractor decided they would prefer an all-in-one concept. Brooks helped develop and, after several revisions, produce a new version of the tie-down anchor that met specific project requirements.
The final ground anchor socket has a footprint of 100x100mm and houses a fixing loop formed from 16mm square material. A forged rebar stud is welded to the base, 152mm in length. The final assembly is galvanised to ensure longevity, with the addition of black gloss paint on the loop only.

The sockets can be easily installed in fresh concrete to create a permanent and safe fixture. When not in use, the loop simply folds down, sitting flush with the ground surface.
A total of 138 units were produced for the project and successfully installed by the contractor.
Works were completed and the square reopened to the public and traders in August 2025.
