LED Lighting Installed in 7 Bays at Manufacturing Site To Reduce Carbon Footprint
Brooks Forgings is proactively researching ways to monitor, evaluate, and reduce energy consumption by utilising the latest and most effective technology available in the marketplace. This is in conjunction with our Green & Clean Initiative to reduce carbon footprint and Lloyds ISO 14001 approval that requires us to monitor and improve the working environment for our employees.
The lighting at our manufacturing site consisted of 120 conventional halogen-based units, over 7 bays, rated at 400 watts each with continuous use of circa 384Kw based on the average working day of 8 hours. After analysing our energy usage it was established that we could save money by switching to an LED-based solution and improve the light output to all of our working areas.
The 120 units lights were replaced with 60 low energy high output LED units rated at 200 watts each and continuous use of circa 96Kw, halving the number of units in use.
The new units can also be set to be motion activated and this feature is used only in the low traffic areas of the facility, further reducing energy usage.
Based on the above figures it was established that a 75% reduction in energy usage and costs would be achieved annually with a return of investment seen within 2 years.
